Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Two terrorists were gunned down during an encounter with security forces in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday morning, officials confirmed. The gunfight broke out around 6:50 am in the Singhpora Chatroo area, between Shari and Mandral Dhok, where militants were reportedly hiding.
A joint search operation was launched by the 2 Para Special Forces, Army’s 11 Rashtriya Rifles, 7th Assam Rifles, and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Kishtwar, based on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the dense forest area.
As the security forces closed in on the suspected hideout, the militants opened fire. The troops retaliated, leading to an intense exchange of gunfire. In the ensuing encounter, two militants were neutralised. Their identities and affiliations are yet to be officially confirmed.
Security forces have cordoned off the area and search operations are still ongoing to rule out the presence of any additional militants or recover hidden weapons and materials. The terrain and thick vegetation in the region have made the operation challenging, officials added.
